In a recent turn of events, Broward County prosecutors have charged multiplatinum-selling rapper Kodak Black with oxycodone possession rather than the initially reported cocaine possession. The new court filing contradicts the arresting officer's affidavit, which claimed a "white chunky substance" found in Black's possession field-tested positive for cocaine.

Black's lawyer, Bradford Cohen, asserts that the artist, also known as Bill Kapri, possesses a legitimate prescription for oxycodone. Cohen condemns the arrest as a "disgusting abuse of power" and plans to call for an investigation into the arresting officer's actions. Cohen raises concerns about the officer's alleged misidentification, stating, "I’ve never seen in my career of 27 years where an officer tested an oxycodone pill, and it came back positive for cocaine."

In response to these developments, Cohen plans to present evidence of the purported prescription, and Broward County State Attorney spokesperson Paula McMahon has expressed willingness to review any documentation the defense provides. McMahon clarified that the charges were filed after receiving lab test results.

Furthermore, Cohen filed a motion on Dec. 14 to suppress what he claims was an "unlawful investigatory stop and arrest." He argues that the initial officer encounter, which involved Kapri's black Bentley on a residential block, was not justified as the rapper wasn't blocking traffic. Cohen contends that the officer failed to request Kapri move his vehicle before initiating the encounter. The arresting officer's affidavit mentions Kapri being found sleeping in the running Bentley, and the officer alleges discovering 4.1 grams of "suspected cocaine" at the scene.

The unfolding legal drama raises questions about the accuracy of the initial charges and the conduct of the arresting officer. As the case progresses, the defense aims to shed light on the alleged prescription for oxycodone and the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
